About Elena Ward

Who it is for

An author's site has to do three things well: show the books in order, announce events and give readers a reason to join a mailing list. Elena Ward is built for a novelist or small publisher with a backlist, a recurring series and a diary of festivals and school visits.

How the pages are laid out

On the home page, a featured title sits above a 'take a book down from the shelf' row listing seven novels, from The Lantern Keeper's Daughter to The Glasshouse Year, followed by an author note, reader and critic quotes, upcoming events, writing-desk journal posts and a monthly letter signup. A book page, shown with The Last Light at Merrow, has a logbook, reviews, a start-from-the-beginning reading order and a note about an online discussion. The Events page lists tour dates and takes enquiries from festivals, schools and libraries. About runs through milestones, and a Journal page completes the set.

Design notes

Bookish and well mannered. EB Garamond and Libre Caslon Display give headings the weight of a printed jacket, Jost keeps small text modern, and a deep claret accent runs through a cream page. Book covers are the colorful elements; everything around them stays quiet.

Good to know

The Elementor build is available for WordPress, Shopify and Next.js as separate $9 purchases, each made to order. Titles, reviews, awards and events in the demo are fictional sample content. No book shop or checkout is included, so purchase links would point to retailers.
