About Wagtail

Who it is for

Wagtail is a Shopify theme for a pet shop that also runs a grooming salon, in the manner of a neighborhood store with a web shop attached. It is built around the idea that owners shop by animal, not by product type, so it suits a retailer that stocks food, toys, beds and accessories for dogs and cats.

How the pages are laid out

Home starts with a call to shop by pet, inviting visitors to say who they are shopping for, then shows a row of weekly favorites such as the Toughie Rubber Bone, Cloud Donut Bed and Wild Salmon Training Bites. A pet profile finder asks 'Who are we shopping for?' and returns picks for your pet. The shop page, called 'The whole shop', can be opened by category such as toys. A grooming salon page sells a 'bath, brush and a bandana' slot, and product, basket, search, About, a label-reading Journal article and Contact & FAQ follow.

Design notes

Cheerful and a bit goofy. Grandstander gives headings a wobbly, hand-cut feel, Nunito Sans keeps product descriptions clean, and a coral accent shows up against a cream ground. A dog photograph set in an arched frame is the page's main image.

Good to know

A Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme, with cart drawer and filtering in the feature list, edited through the theme editor. All three platforms for this theme, Shopify, WordPress and Next.js, are made to order, each a separate $9 purchase. Food claims and salon wording in the demo are sample text.
