These steps apply to themes sold for Shopify.
Upload the theme
- Download your files from the link in your order email, and unzip if needed. Keep the theme itself as a .zip file.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Under Theme library, click Add theme → Upload zip file.
- Choose the theme .zip file and click Upload.
Preview and publish
- When the upload finishes, the theme appears in your theme library, not yet live.
- Click Customize to open the theme editor and add your logo, colours, products and content.
- Use the preview to check desktop and mobile.
- When you are happy, open the ... menu next to the theme and choose Publish.
Good habits
- Keep your current live theme in the library as a fallback until you are sure.
- Duplicate the theme before you make big edits.
- Set up collections, navigation and policies in Shopify, because the theme displays what your store contains.
If the upload fails
Check that you are uploading the theme .zip (not the whole download folder) and try again. See Troubleshooting common problems or email support@buildkitly.com with your order number.
